The thing is, none of that changes what I see as the fundamental problem with the Reapers: there's no good way to beat them. Oh, there are ways to improve it, certainly: get rid of the star child, maybe nix the synthesis ending, etc. The thing is, even with the benefit of hindsight, I'm not entirely sure how you'd go about 'fixing' it.
We've all heard the rants about how Mass Effect 3 fucked up the ending, I don't need to repeat any of the criticisms that you've all seen a million times by now. Let me just preface this by saying that this is partially some brainstorming for a fanfic I'm working on, so thank you in advance for the good ideas that I can steal.
